Our Extensive Experience

MECA’s founder, John J. Stofko, P.E., is a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer who graduated from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. With his direction and expertise, pride is taken in maintaining a quality electrical engineering department, which can facilitate any applicable project. The electrical team’s extensive experience encompasses large-scale power distribution, control systems, energy management systems, emergency power systems, communications, and computer facilities. MECA’s field service engineers offer hands-on troubleshooting, equipment diagnostics, start-up assistance and contractor supervision across all sectors to support clients with valuable, efficient, cost-effective solutions.

MECA’s design and engineering teams specialize in electrical automation, power distribution, and industrial electrical engineering. MECA has provided local industrial facilities, including Cleveland Cliffs (Inland Steel), LTV Steel, ACME Steel and Bethlehem Steel with professional engineering services since 1981.  Our background and experience, related to the steel industry, includes hundreds of successful electrical engineering projects and has included design for every critical area within the facilities – coal handling, coke plants, blast furnaces, BOFs, continuous casters, slab mills, rolling mills, finishing mills, utilities, etc. We have designed control systems utilizing PLCs, MMIs, VFDs, and a variety of instrumentation, meeting required specifications of each system involved. Detailed designs provided to clients include industrial and commercial towers, overhead lighting, direct current (DC) crane control, radio control and installation upgrades. Notable projects include new transformers, power distribution and control systems for AM Stabilizers (Valparaiso, IN), electrical design for the Cleveland Cliffs Lime-Plant (East Chicago, IN), electrical design for Tropicana (Bradenton, FL), electrical design, automation, and PLC programming for the Navajo Pride Facility (Farmington, New Mexico), and design and engineering for various substations, power distribution and projects for the Northern Indiana.
