Structural Design
RHOB Turntable

ArcelorMittal IHE – East Chicago, IN

MECA Engineering performed a series of structural inspections, NDT, and analyses in order to determine a series of interim and final comprehensive repairs for the RHOB Turntable. The project included engineering, design, and subsequent follow-up NDT and inspections in order to verify implementation of critical design elements.

Marine Inspection & Repairs​ Design
Indiana Harbor Canal Dock Wall

Indiana Harbor West – East Chicago, IN

MECA Engineering was contracted to perform inspection and design for repairs of the dock wall along the west side of the Indiana Harbor Canal. Utilizing ground penetrating radar, underwater observation equipment, and additional inspection methods, damage was documented, a repair plan created, and design drawings were provided including bollards, expansion joints, bumpers/fenders, and appurtenances.

Residential Engineering
Subdivision & Golf Course

Duck Creek Estates – Unincorporated Porter County, IN

MECA Engineering provided the design for a 108 lot, single family, residential subdivision with 18 hole golf course along State Road 130 in Porter County, Indiana. Project included civil engineering, design, field services, and construction layout for storm water, roadways, and golf course appurtenances.

Crane Runway Analyses
ArcelorMittal
East Chicago and Burns Harbor, IN

MECA Engineering performs overhead crane runway analyses for numerous buildings throughout ArcelorMittal’s Northwest Indiana facilities. Engineering analyses include destructive testing, visual inspections, and rail geometrics. We also provide additional services such as crane load rating, comprehensive crane inspection, as well as general mechanical and structural design.

Inspection & Repair Design
Grand Calumet River Bridge
Bridge Street, Gary, IN

Structural/Marine inspection and repair design for a vehicular bridge over the Grand Calumet River. This steel bridge was nearing the end of its life cycle. Meca Engineering was contracted to identify the problems and design a workable solution that would improve the integrity of the bridge to extend the existing service life. Our civil engineering team designed the structural modifications to allow the bridge to be utilized and maintain vehicular traffic into the plant.

Mechanical Design
Aluminum Modular Enclosure Design

Praxair – Burns harbor, IN

MECA Engineering designed and installed a modular panel system for insulation and protection of two regen heaters at a Burns Harbor plant. The aluminum panels contained transparent access sections and the system was designed to allow for a single operator to maintain.

Logistics & Transportation
Engineering Oversight and Transport

Sabine Pass, LA to Burns Harbor, IN

MECA Engineering field coordinated and documented two existing 50,000 gallon tanks in Sabine, La and provided transport to the Burns Harbor, In facility. Tanks were transported within the local plant utilizing a Goldhoffer transportation system to store on temporary mounts and subsequently for setting at the final location.

Process Facility Design
AM Stabilizers
​Valparaiso, IN

MECA Engineering performed air quality permitting, site development, and process design for production lines at the new facility. Design included IDEM permitting, dust control, HVAC, MCC, pneumatics, equipment design, and structural modifications to the existing building to accommodate two powder process lines.

Commercial Engineering and Design
Interior/Exterior Waterproofing & Remodelling Project

Gary Public Library – Gary, IN

MECA Engineering designed and implemented waterproofing measures to prevent water from seeping into basement areas. The project included exterior renovation concrete and drainage around the building, installation of a perimeter drain tile, and installation of a permanent well point system for ongoing dewatering.

Roadway & Utility Design
Northcote Avenue

City of East Chicago, Indiana

MECA Engineering performed field investigation, data collection, utility observations, separation of combined sewer, relocation of wet utilities, and redesign of the entire road section between Chicago Avenue and 151st Avenue.
